My 24×7 job keeps my days full. An action-packed investment banking job, pressures of managing a large team and hard-to-please clients who take the joy out a deal well done! Leaving no time for my family, my books or the simple pleasures of being lost in one’s thoughts. The little bursts of freedom are the vacations that I take – I protect them as would an émigré his homecoming or the faithful his pilgrimage. These trips provide me with the opportunity to follow the footsteps of age-old explorers from Ibn Battuta to Captain Cook to new age travel writers like Paul Theroux and Bruce Chatwin. Many times I wonder if my life is lived only in those twenty “privileged” days and if the rest of my year is only the means to that end? I yearn for a nomadic life, but am yet to get the courage to shed the golden handcuffs of a cushy job. Till that glorious hour, I hereby record the best days of my life.
